The pros and cons of keeping animals in captivity - rozprawka [język angielski/liceum/poziom rozszerzony]

We can no longer imagine life without some types of entertainment such as visiting zoos. We can see there plenty of exotic, wild animals. Some people consider keeping animals in captivity to be cruel. But in my point of view this solution has a lot of advantages, even for animals.

Firstly, visiting zoos is an entertainment for people of all ages. We can admire there colourful parrots, dangerous reptiles and so on. We have also a great opportunity to learn about wildlife, animals’ behaviour and see rare, unusual species.

What is more, keeping animals in captivity can be even good for them. People who work in the zoos are able to provide them fresh food, water and medical treatment. Animals surely feel safe and calm, because there are not any dangerous carnivores and hunters. Furthermore, keeping animals in captivity is the best way to control and protect endangered species.

On the other hand, there is no doubt that animals have feelings and enjoy freedom. If they are kept in captivity, they do not have necessary space and sometimes have to live in uncomfortable cages. In addition, it is not always easy to provide proper conditions for animals – for example, wild animals from Africa would not feel good in polish zoo because of the cold climate.

To sum up, keeping animals in captivity has its disadvantages. After all it is a good solution to protect animals from dangers and to educate and entertain people.
